Dr. Gerald F. Doebbler was a chemist who was a senior research scientist for Union Carbide when it was one of the biggest chemical companies in the world and later Professor of Chemistry at Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

He lived in San Antonio, Texas, in retirement, reading, traveling, and following issues like climate change and environmental modification.

Dr. Doebbler was a renowned writer whose works on biological individuality, cryobiology, and blood preservation still remain important works in their respective fields of chemistry.

He received his degrees, including his Ph.D., in chemistry from the University of Texas, where he studied under Professor Roger J. Williams, whose work was well-known in the areas of nutrition, biochemical individuality, and Pantothenic acid (also known as pantothenate or vitamin B5, a vitamin which Professor Williams discovered). Dr. Doebbler's Ph.D. was on biochemical individuality using a methodology that was ground-breaking at the time..

Today there is a scholarship at Brackenridge High School named after Dr. Gerald F. Doebbler for students who are interested in going to university to study chemistry.
